Bone Density Testing

One out of every two women over the age of 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. Dual Energy Radio Absorptimetry DEXA has long been the gold standard of screening as well as evaluating treatment of osteoporosis. Bone loss cannot be measured by routine X-ray. The radiation exposure from a Dexa is less than a routine x-ray. Our gynecologists are able to provide this service in our office for appropriate patients using the Lunar DPX-IQ machine. This provides rapid evaluation of bone mineral density of the lumbar spine and the hip, i.e. the two most important areas to evaluate for osteoporosis.

We have been more than pleased with our results in early detection of osteoporosis. This has enabled us to truly "fine-tune" our patients' treatment protocol in her menopausal years. Dr. Mann is certified by the ISCD, (International Society for Clinical Densitometry). Our machine is inspected by the State every year and our technicians have taken Radiology safety courses.
